Living and Working in Washington County
Down East Community Hospital is a critical access hospital with advanced technology, 24 hour emergency department, and a hospitalist program. The hospital has general surgery and specialties such as Otolaryngology, Orthopedics, Urology and Pain Management. We have physician practices along the coast of Maine. The teamwork approach is valued here because we know it takes all of us to provide our community with the healthcare they deserve.
We live in a community that is tucked away in a picturesque coastal town that has an abundance of outdoor recreation. There is boating, hiking, golf, hunting, skiing, snowmobiling, snowshoeing, and ice fishing. There is no end to the rich, breathtaking landscapes and neighbors still help one another. There is affordable housing with views. Local fisherman provide fresh from the boat lobster, scallops, and shrimp and the natural wildlife is abundant. There is no better place to spend your time away from a busy day whether you like the ocean, lakes, rivers, farmland or the forest. This is where you want to work, live, and play.
The quality of life is exceptional. You will not have the added stress of traffic or have to worry about the safety of your children in this low-crime rural setting. There are strong school systems with exceptional academics and a strong love for sports and music. The University of Maine campus provides an opportunity for further study as well as a full fitness center and pool. If you are looking for work life balance and want to spend more time with your family in a picturesque rural setting this is where you need to be. Come practice medicine with us. Life is good here, it is as it should be.
Volunteers are an important part of Down East Community Hospital’s mission to improve the overall health and well-being of the community. Whether you have two hours a week or two days a week, we encourage you to consider volunteering and contribute to the caring, compassionate quality care we provide.
